Santa Barbara Braille Institute Regional Sight Center
With a reach that extends from Ventura to San Luis Obispo County, the Santa Barbara Center brings free services to thousands of residents. Reopened in May 2004 north of downtown Santa Barbara, the Santa Barbara Center allows us to increase the range of our programs in the Tri-County area.

GETTING AROUND TOWN
When fading vision means that driving is no longer an option, there are still safe, effective ways to get around. Learn more about training, tools, events and resources that are helping people navigate their communities.
Here are some of the exciting upcoming events at our Center!
The Benefits of a Guide Dog — March 10, 10 a.m. – noon
Braille Institute’s Santa Barbara Regional Center will host
a representative from Guide Dogs for the Blind to meet with students and demonstrate how guide dogs can
improve mobility.
Orientation & Mobility and Food! — March 11, 9 a.m. –
10 a.m.
Come join us as Braille Institute Santa Barbara students
walk to the Los Gallos Restaurant to
test their O&M and money management skills and enjoy a great meal!
Public Transportation Seminar — March 16, 10 a.m. – noon
Braille Institute’s Santa Barbara Regional Center plays
host to a seminar on using local public transportation. Students will learn
first hand how MTD can get them where right they need to be. This will include
using schedules and transferring safely.
The Many Uses of MTD Excursion — April 6, 10 a.m. – 12:30
p.m.
Santa Barbara students will test their “getting around
town” skills by traveling to downtown Santa Barbara via MTD. Come join us for a
fun-filled excursion!
