Los Angeles, CA – February 20, 2024: Braille Institute, a leading organization dedicated to empowering individuals with vision loss, is delighted to announce the appointment of Dr. Madhu Ayyagari to its Board of Directors. With over 25 years of experience in ophthalmic medical device research and development, Dr. Ayyagari brings a wealth of knowledge and leadership to Braille Institute’s mission of positively transforming the lives of those with visual loss.

Madhu Ayyagari currently serves as the Senior Vice President, Global R&D at Hoya Surgical Optics, based in Irvine, CA. Prior to this role, he held the position of Vice President, Global R&D at Bausch & Lomb Surgical Business Unit, where he successfully led R&D teams across various locations, focusing on the design and development of cutting-edge ophthalmic solutions.

During his impressive career, he has made significant contributions to the field, including the design and development of intraocular lenses, insertion devices, consumables, and cataract & retina equipment.

Madhu Ayyagari holds a doctorate in Chemical Engineering from Tulane University, a Master’s in Business Administration from the University of Rochester Simon School of Business, a Master’s in Chemical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Science, and a Bachelor’s in Chemical Engineering from Osmania University.

In addition to his professional achievements, Mr. Ayyagari has served as the National Research Council (NRC) Fellow at the US Army RD&E Center and has been an invited speaker at numerous international forums on innovation, product development, and project management.

Madhu resides in Rancho Santa Margarita, CA, with his wife, Lakshmi Meduri, and their two sons.
