As we near the end of 2020, Braille Institute – a charity for the blind and those with low vision – is grateful for the incredible support of our most generous donors. Whether you support us because you or a loved one have been personally touched by our services, your generosity keeps our services free for everyone, which is especially important when facing a life-changing issue. Braille Institute empowers and illuminates the path to living, learning, and success for thousands of people living with vision loss.
When it became impossible for students and patrons to visit our centers for needed services, Braille Institute quickly pivoted to update programming and services to virtual delivery online and via thousands of one-on-one support phone calls to check in, deliver low vision assessments, and provide peer support. Online delivery quickly became the norm – and your support helped us put in place needed technology.
Your generous, tax-deductible year-end gift to Braille Institute today will make a major difference in 2021, not only for those currently living with vision loss, but for the thousands who will learn they are losing their sight.
Remote services are now provided online or by phone allowing students and clients to receive support from the comfort and safety of their home. Assessments, consultations and classes are provided by skilled occupational therapists and instructors. Your financial support allows Braille Institute to continue offering vital classes and workshops like orientation and mobility, living with vision loss, braille reading and writing, navigating your kitchen or medicine cabinet, fall prevention, smart phone accessibility, screen reader basics, audio books and so much more. Classes for balance and mobility alone can cost $55-$65 per hour of instruction one of our students shared. With your support, Braille Institute has been able to deliver these services entirely free.
“They will be understanding and patient and welcoming, its like a family community because they help each other,” shared another Braille Institute student.
Please make your generous, year-end contribution by December 31. By working together, you and I can ensure that our free transformational programs can grow and adapt to the ever-changing needs of the low-vision community. Again, thank you for your ongoing and loyal support.
