The 2020 Summer Reading Program for Adults at the Braille Institute Library is right around the corner! The program is simple: your challenge is to read for 30 minutes a day for 50 days between June 10 and July 29, 2020. Everyone who signs up will receive a gift, and those who complete the challenge will be eligible for raffle prizes.
Like all Braille Institute services, the 2020 Summer Reading Program for Adults is free.
All Braille Institute Library patrons 18 years and older are welcome to participate! Participants can log their reading between June 10 and July 29, by downloading the smart phone app “READsquared” and searching for “Braille Institute,” or by visiting the website brailleinstitute.readsquared.com. Choose the “Adult 2020” program and start logging your reading on June 10.
Why have an adult summer reading program?
Research from the last five years shows that individuals who engage in recreational reading enhance their literacy skills, which helps to maintain cognitive health and resilient behaviors into old age. In fact, one study found that individuals who read for an average of 30 minutes per day appeared to show an improved quality of life as compared to those who did not read books.
Our goal at Braille Institute is to empower individuals to live more enriching lives with blindness and vision loss. Our Summer Reading Program for Adults will offer a fun challenge while promoting literary engagement and lifelong learning.
If you need help registering, or if you have any questions about the program, contact Reed Strege at rwstrege@brailleinstitutute.org, or call (323) 906-3185.
Happy reading!
