Braille Literacy is one of the most-important skills for young children who are visually impaired to develop as they grow. Our Child Development Consultants work on braille literacy with their clients and their families daily, teaching and guiding them on their journey with braille literacy.
As part of our Library Month Celebration in April, Our Child Development Consultants put together a recommendation list of their favorite books available on Amazon.com for children who are visually impaired, ages 0-6.
The books are all affordable and vary in age and subject. Many also include a tactile element, which is a fantastic addition to any book for a child who is visually impaired.
Our Child Development Consultants also regularly offer free online videos in which they recommend activities that can easily be made and done at home for children who are visually impaired and their families. They can be found on our YouTube Channel.
Braille Institute also offers Special Collection, a program designed to increase braille literacy and foster a love of reading by providing children who are blind and visually impaired with FREE braille books and storybook kits throughout the year. The 2021 Spring/Summer catalog was just released and is available on the Braille Institute website.
