A Popular App for the Visually Impaired

According to our experts in Braille Institute’s Connection Pointe Technology Center, there is a new app popular with our students called the KNFB Reader. Using an iPhone or iPad, this app takes pictures of printed material and then reads the text aloud using text-to-speech technology. Important to a person who is visually impaired is the feature that uses a vibration system and spoken messages to position the device’s camera in front of the text. This app is ideal for reading letters, invoices, newspaper articles, menus, food labels and more wherever you are. Currently, it is available in 12 languages.
